The interesting thing is if it is this moth it originates in Portugal/Spain. But it has been introduced in Canada for weed control, so I guess it could find its way down here.

Had post this
As soon as I saw this giant caterpillar I had to find out what it was, take its picture and post it.
This caterpillar is about 3 inches long. I think it is a Spurge hawkmoth http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?search=Hyles+euphorbiae&guide=Caterpillars
