Saw a large group of Cedar Waxwings in the yard today feeding on juniper berries. They also were enjoying some fresh water in the bird bath.
Not the greatest pictures, I was shooting through the glass door to our deck.
And I saw a Northern Shrike again! Earlier this afternoon when the Cedar Waxwings were enjoying themselves it flew into the yard. I was trying to get my mittens off to get a picture but it scared off all the Waxwings and other birds and flew away before I could get a shot.
So here is some pictures from a bit ago of it sitting up on the power lines.
A blog focused on wildlife, native plants and my garden in the burbs north of the Twin Cities.

Thanksgiving walk with a Great Horned Owl?
Fairly certain this is a Great Horned Owl. It didnt look all that big though. Saw him when I went for a walk today.
A very large mushroom on a tree. Id say it was about a foot or more across.
Some cool looking fungi on a tree. At first I thought it was a lot of woodpecker holes.

Northern Shrike
Saw 2 Northern Shrikes just about 30 mins ago! Before I got the camera I saw one that caught a mouse and struggled to carry it from one side of the marsh to the other. Not the best pictures but I was losing light and its cold out so keeping the camera still was a bit hard.
Great Blue Heron was in the marsh the other day. It hung out for 2 days, we were concerned it was hurt or just exhausted. Didn't see it today so hopefully it flew someplace with more food.
A bunch of mushrooms were growing right at the base of our roses when we were putting them to bed for the winter. Not sure what kind yet.
